Acer Plans to Offer 16-inch and 18.4-inch Blu-Ray Notebooks

AcerAcer plans to start offering Blu-Ray equipped notebooks in the spring of this year. Company's executive confirmed on Monday that the computer firm will have two notebooks available with the world's first 16- and 18.4-inch widescreen notebook LCDs, capable of playing Blu-Ray movies in full HD (1920x1080) resolution. Both will appropriately ship with a Blu-ray drive for playing HD movies.

 

Other specifications of the portables have not been revealed, though the Blu-ray feature will likely dictate dedicated AMD or NVIDIA graphics as well as a minimum 2GB of RAM.

Penryn CPUs on Dell Inspiron 1420 & 1720

DellDell now offers the option to select Penryn CPUs in the Inspiron 1420 & Inspiron 1720 models. The 1420 can handle up to Core 2 Duo T8300 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache) whereas the 1720 features option for both - T8300 & T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache) Penryn processors.

 

The T8300 is a $225 upgrade on the Inspiron 1420 (base config of $699). Similarly, on the $849 Inspiron 1720 - T8300 and T9300 option is available for additional $225 & $350 respectively. It's interesting to note that Inspiron 1525 range hasn't been updated with an option for Penryn.

 
Area-51 with Core 2 Extreme X9000 Processor

This makes the Area-51 m15x, released earlier this year, the first and only 15.4-inch notebook to feature this unique and powerful processor.

Intel’s new 45nm technology infused with Hafnium technology, improved thermal management, more transistors, and Intel HD Boost allows the Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 to deliver an increase in executable instructions with less strain on the CPU. HP Compaq 2133 UMPC Revealed

HP's upcoming UMPC, the 2133, photos have been leaked to Engadget. The HP Compaq 2133 features 8.9" scratch resistant 1366x766 (WXGA) display, ExpressCard/54 slot, wireless LAN, integrated webcam, and optional SSD running Windows Vista or Linux.
