Wyse Announced X90 and X90e Thin Client Notebooks

Wyse X90Wyse has released the X90 and X90e thin client notebooks, which operate without a local HDD and a cooling fan. It's intended for business use, but analysts said it's the type of device that may be a forerunner of future notebook computers.

Both notebookss feature the VIA C7-M ULV processor running at 1.2GHz, a 12.1" display with 1280x800 resolution, and weigh 3.8 pounds. Wyse claims the battery life of the X90 and X90e is between 5 and 7 hours. These thin clients use the embedded Windows XPe operating system, which is preloaded on a built-in 512MB Flash memory module. The announced notebooks have an equal amount of system memory, expandable to 2GB.

Intel Plans Mobile Quad-Core Processors

IntelIntel plans to unleash quad-core Penryn-based processors on its upcoming Montevina mobile platform. The new mobile quad-core processor features a 35 mm x 35 mm die in PGA packaging. The new mobile quad-core CPUs will use Socket P and will be similar to its desktop equivalent.

Mobile quad-core processors feature a different pin layout. Notebook manufacturers have to specifically design notebooks to accommodate the thermal and electrical demands of mobile quad-core processors.

The mobile quad-core Penryn processors are similar to desktop counterparts. Expect 12MB of L2 cache on mobile quad-core Penryn’s with a front-side bus speed of 1066 MHz. Intel plans to keep thermals around 45-Watts, with idle power consumption around 3-4 Watts. Mobile quad-core Penryn’s will also support all HALT states, including C4.

Intel targets the mobile quad-core Penryn for 2H’08 with the arrival of Montevina mobile platform.
 
Dell Announced Precision M6300

Dell Precision M6300Dell Inc. has announced the Precision M6300 workstation notebook to deliver performance and features to create, analyze & design. The Precision M6300, which is a successor of the M90, is based on the Intel "Santa Rosa" mobile platform and features the Core 2 Extreme X7900 processor option, the NVIDIA’s Quadro graphics, and a variety of storage and connectivity features.

The launch of the Precision M6300 mobile workstation coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Dell Precision lineup.

This 8.5-pound laptop provides a choice of the Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, T7500 and the T7700 CPUs, as well as the overclockable Core 2 Extreme X7900 at 2.8GHz, which is the chip maker’s fastest mobile CPU. These processors are paired with Intel PM965 chipset and operate at an 800MHz front side bus, which is an increase from a 667MHz FSB found in the Precision M90.

The NVIDIA Quadro FX 1600M dedicated video card empowers the M6300’s 17" widescreen display with 1440x900 or 1920x1200 screen resolution, depending on purchaser’s choice. In addition, Dell has announced that the LED backlight display option could be available later.

New HP Pavilion Notebooks Released

HP Pavilion dv9500z and dv6500zToday HP released a refresh to the HP consumer notebook lines on models equipped with AMD processors. The new models include the , both powered by AMD’s processors and NVIDIA’s nForce 630M chipset.

The 15.4" HP Pavilion dv6500z and the 17" dv9500z feature AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core processor options. The dv6500z is offered with Turion 64 X2 CPUs clocked at up to 2.2GHz, while the dv9500z additionally provides a choice of the latest Turion 64 X2 TL-66 processor at 2.3GHz. By default, these laptops ship with the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M graphics integrated into the nForce 630M chipset, while for more demanding users there is the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS dedicated video option.

Both notebooks support up to 4GB of system memory. The largest hard drive offered in the HP Pavilion dv6500z is a 250GB SATA unit spinning at 5400rpm. On the other side, the HP Pavilion dv9500z provides a maximum of 500GB storage capacity using two 250GB, 5400rpm SATA HDDs. The new AMD-powered Pavilions ship with a DVD burner, but there is also a choice of HD DVD ROM drive, if the dedicated 8400M graphics is selected.

Samsung Announced Three New Q1 Ultra Ultra-mobile PCs

Samsung Q1 UltraSamsung Electronics has announced the Q1U-SSDXP, Q1U-XP and Q1U-ELXP, the three new additions to its Q1 Ultra ultra-mobile PC lineup. All of the new models feature Microsoft Windows XP Tablet Edition operating system, while the main innovation in the Q1U UMPC series is a solid state drive in the Q1U-SSDXP.

The Q1U-ELXP is powered by the 600MHz A100 Ultra Mobile processor and a 40GB hard disk drive and is priced at $999.00. The Q1U-XP UMPC, which is powered by the 800MHz A110 Ultra Mobile processor and has a 60GB hard disk drive will cost you $1149.00, while the Q1U-SSDXP, powered by an 800MHz A110 Ultra Mobile processor and fit with a 32GB Flash NAND solid state drive retails for $1649.00

Samsung’s Q1 Ultra UMPC, based on Intel’s Ultra Mobile Platform 2007, has been officially announced in May. Every Q1U model features a 7", 1024x600 touch-screen display, an integrated split-QWERTY keypad, 1GB of DDR2 memory, and the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, as well as 802.11b/g wireless, Ethernet LAN and Bluetooth connections.

The Q1 Ultra UMPCs weigh around 1.5lbs each and are claimed to have a battery life of up to 4.5 hours.
